A PhD linguist whose specialty areas include second language acquisition, phonetics, speech perception and speech production, Andreia loves providing Butler Hill's clients with language-specific information needed to improve a product that is used by millions of users worldwide. In her capacity as a linguistic consultant for Brazilian and European Portuguese, she has created language specifications, validated grammar checking software and machine translation output, collected special domain corpora, and tested and corrected text-to-speech synthesis data.

Andreia recently moved back to Brazil from Portugal. She now conducts her work from Florianópolis, an island in the south of Brazil that counts 42 beaches and a varied landscape featuring fishermen's villages, very modern tall buildings, hills, beautiful trees, several lakes, high quality universities and delicious food. Nature is so powerful there that the place is called "magic island"!

Brian is a Project Manager for various search technology projects in the United States that focus on ways to harness semantic search for enhanced information retrieval. He leads virtual consultant teams and supports them in achieving production requirements on a daily basis. He has also previously managed projects in the Brazil and Canada markets for Butler Hill. Brian enjoys strategizing with fellow project managers, thinking of new ways to achieve the highest quality results to deliver to the client, and contributing to making Butler Hill the vendor of choice in the client's eye.

Brian is currently pursuing an advanced degree in library science. When he is not working, Brian spends most of his time outdoors, much of it in and around Lake Michigan. He considers the memorable steak dinner at Gibson's Steakhouse one of the best features of his hometown Chicago!

Martine is fluent in Danish, French, English and Arabic, and has worked on several projects for Butler Hill Group since 2005, including testing of machine translation systems, data collection, phonetic transcription correction and the creation of language model specifications. Martine enjoys the exciting challenge of getting assignments in different languages and various linguistic disciplines. Her special areas of expertise are lexicography and morphology, and she has produced printed and electronic Arabic-Danish dictionaries. Her passion for language and their intricacies, combined with analytical skills and a keen attention to detail, make Martine a great linguistic consultant for our clients.

In her spare time, Martine enjoys reading and traveling.

A dual citizen of the US and Finland, Mia has a PhD in Scandinavian Studies with a specialization in Finnish studies, and plenty of experience teaching and working with diverse groups of people around the world.

As a Butler Hill consultant, Mia worked on Finnish linguistic projects including a speller evaluation, a corpus collection, and the testing and normalization of phonetic transcriptions. In 2009, Mia joined Butler Hill full-time and now manages consultants based in Germany, France, Russia and Egypt. What she loves most about Butler Hill are the smart and motivated people she gets to work with on a daily basis.

Mia is an avid hiker who is out and about exploring the Pacific Northwest most summer weekends. She also enjoys reading, gardening, travelling, and going to the theater

Ramiro, who has a background in translation, has been a consultant with Butler Hill for several years, working on speech lexicon and audio script validation tasks, as well as search data annotation projects. He recently progressed into a team lead role for the Mexican market.

Ramiro is impressed with how well Butler Hill runs as a "virtual office" with far-spread team members collaborating on client projects all over the world. He enjoys the pleasant work environment and the flexibility of working from home and setting his own hours.

Outside work, Ramiro likes to read, run, and play soccer. He loves the year round sunny climate of his home town, and showing off the beach to visitors.

Anna Kristina works in academia, as a postdoctoral research fellow in sociolinguistics, where the job content is primarily theoretical. She finds it very rewarding to put linguistic theories into use through her various consulting assignments for Butler Hill. Anna Kristina's native languages are Danish and Swedish, but she is also fluent in English and French and has a working knowledge of Spanish and Dutch. Her main areas of linguistic expertise are in phonetics and phonology, in addition to sociolinguistics.

Anna Kristina has helped Butler Hill's clients develop handwriting recognition features, improve spell checkers and machine translation software, and create voice-based satellite navigation systems for Scandinavian languages.

What Anna Kristina likes about working with Butler Hill is that the company offers flexibility she needs to fulfill other professional commitments.

In her spare time, Anna Kristina loves to sample Michelin starred restaurants in Europe and trying to replicate some of the dishes at home.

Rashid speaks English, French, Arabic, Hindi and Urdu, and has helped Butler Hill support our machine translation and search clients for over four years. As search data annotator for English in India, he has accumulated great knowledge about the search market – as well as everything big and small that people search for!

Passionate about learning new languages and exploring new cultures, Rashid loves to travel. He also cherishes his home base: "The best thing about my country is its diversity. It's also a gourmet's paradise where you can sample some really great cuisines."
