Lisa Braden-Harder

Lisa Braden-Harder, Founder and President
Lisa Braden-Harder founded the Butler Hill Group in 1993. Her experience as a computational linguist includes automatic English analysis, with emphasis on grammar and style critiquing, web search and semantic databases. Lisa also has experience in applied research with IBM, at the T.J. Watson Research Lab, where she received the IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award, IBM Research Division Award and four patents. Lisa currently collaborates on a variety of projects with Microsoft Research.


Karin Berghofer

Karin Berghöfer, Director
Karin Berghöfer is a native German who received her MA in German Linguistics and Literature and Education in Berlin. She has been with the Butler Hill Group since 2000. Her professional career includes teaching, localization, administration, project management, and linguistic software and dictionary testing. Karin has managed many multi-language projects for several Microsoft clients. She is the first point of contact in establishing new client relationships, and has successfully helped many clients customize test management infrastructure that is unique to their needs.


Daphne Guericke

Daphne Guericke, Director
Daphne Guericke, originally from near Hamburg in Germany, received her MA degrees in Linguistics from both Hamburg, Germany and the University of Colorado, Boulder. Prior to joining Butler Hill Group in January 2008, she worked at Microsoft for 15 years in the fields of software localization/globalization, natural-language processing and handwriting recognition in varying capacities: Program Manager, QA Manager and Localization Engineer. Daphne has extensive experience in managing large multi-lingual projects and teams and has successfully shipped numerous software products during her tenure. Since joining Butler Hill Group, Daphne has overseen several linguistic projects for an array of IT clients, as well as managing teams of linguists and project managers.


Tammy Garves

Tammy Garves, Director
Tammy Garves received a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies/Global Studies from the University of Washington, and spent two quarters in Ireland studying the European Union and its effects on rural versus urban Ireland. She has more than 15 years of management experience including an extensive Human Resource and training background writing and implementing HR processes and developing training programs. Tammy has spent the last 5 years consulting in the IT Industry managing multiple high-profile technical projects for such internationally known clients as Microsoft, Eli Lilly, Caterpillar, Toshiba, and Toyota. Tammy joined Butler Hill in the spring of 2007, and is responsible for managing a large team of Annotators that work on search technology. She is also responsible for Butler Hill's Project Management Office and Human Resource team.


Yurim Yi

Yurim Yi, Senior Project Manager
Yurim Yi is originally from Seoul, Korea and received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Washington in Speech Communication. She has over 10 years of experience in the IT industry with background in managing customer service and support vendors for internet products, managing software releases, and project management for various launches and initiatives. She joined Butler Hill Group in December 2007 and is responsible for managing projects for search technology.


Isabelle Bouanna

Isabelle Bouanna, Project Manager/Linguist
Isabelle Bouanna is a native French speaker who received her post-master's degree in ILTS (Language Engineering and Localization) in Paris. Isabelle has worked in the software industry since 1992 as a terminologist, training specialist, software test engineer and Project Manager on a wide variety of NLP projects such as Machine Translation, Terminology Databases and Handwriting Recognition. She has also worked on various educational projects.


Anya Dormer

Anya Dormer, Project Manager/Linguist
Anya Dormer holds an MA in General Linguistics from the University of Washington. Her native language is Russian and she first joined Butler Hill Group in early 2005 to work on the Russian/English machine translation system within the Microsoft NLP research group. Since then, she has worked on a number of other Russian and multi-lingual projects, both as a manager and a linguist.


Sylwia Tur

Sylwia Tur, Project Manager/Linguist
Sylwia Tur, originally from Poland, holds a BA and an MA in Linguistics from the University of Washington in Seattle. Her main areas of research include acoustic phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistics and speech perception. Sylwia joined the Butler Hill Group in 2005 as a Polish consultant on the Machine Translation project. Since then she has worked through Butler Hill Group as a manager and linguist on several projects for Microsoft's NLP, Tablet, KidTab, and Live Search groups.


Cheryl Vander Mey

Cheryl Vander Mey, Manager of Human Resources
Cheryl Vander Mey received her BA in English Literature from Calvin College in Michigan. She has worked in the Human Resources field for over 30 years, primarily in the banking and healthcare industries. Her professional career has included work redesign and process improvement in addition to the standard human resources functions that manage the employment life cycle from hiring to retirement. Cheryl joined Butler Hill in 2007.
